Pentecost Circular of the Hungarian Reformed Church

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, »Abba, Father.«" (Romans 8,14-15)

Dear Brothers and Sisters!

On the Feast of Pentecost, we welcome the Hungarian Reformed community of the Carpathian Basin and the world! All our Christian brothers and sisters!

We see in our immediate and wider environment how many different guiding principles want to assert their truth, assert their power, without being selective in the means. We also see how many lives, how many souls, are sacrificed to selfish human interests and at the mercy of formidable spiritual forces.

The message of Pentecost today remains that those guided by the Holy Spirit of God are indeed the sons of God. They carry the promises, they are the heirs, they are the messengers, the witnesses of the gospel of Christ, of deliverance from sin, of salvation and eternal life. They are not slaves, but free. They are not bound by fears, but with joy and peace in their hearts by faith, they are enlarged in hope (Rom 15:13).

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God" - if this is not our identity, the basis of our self-understanding, the origin and motivation of our ecclesial and individual life, our ministry, we can easily get lost and fall into the bondage of fears, the bondage of a spirit of servitude.

The cry to the Lord is a prayer, "Abba, Father!" Give us the gift of your filled Holy Spirit, lead us in the way of authentic witness to Christ, make us a blessing, work unity and peace among us! For all things to you alone be the glory!

So let us carry the community of the Hungarian Reformed Church together in prayer on the feast of Pentecost! We wish all our brothers and sisters a blessed feast and a blessed celebration!

Presidium of the General Convent

Presidium of the General Convent

As the common representative body of the Reformed churches in the Carpathian Basin, the General Convent has an important role in the coordination of common issues and works to achieve unity through a harmonizing liturgy and Hymnbook, because of their cooperation in mission and diaconia. The General Convent consists of all the deans and lay presidents in office of the Reformed presbyteries within the Carpathian Basin, as well as bishops and chief elders in office of the church districts.

Its presidium meets every two months and is composed of the bishops and chief elders (lay presidents) of the ten church districts in office.
