WCRC solidarity letter to the Reformed Church in Sub-Carpathia

The president and secretary of the European Area of the World Communion of Reformed Churches have issued a letter expressing WCRC's solidarity for the Reformed Church in Sub-Carpathia and the Hungarian minority living in Ukraine as they face the uncertain situation in Ukraine.

Messages of Condolence

Following the death of former bishop Dr. Károly Tóth, the Reformed Church in Hungary has received an outpouring of letters expressing condolence and appreciation for his life. Among them were messages from international ecumenical organizations, service to which was such an important aspect of Dr.Tóth’s work, and individuals that he had made connections with during his life.

“In whatever you face, we will not forget you”

In a letter to the Reformed Church in Transcarpathia, the Council of WCRC Europe expressed its support and prayer for the reformed people of Transcarpathia. The Council met in Warsaw on 27-28 March with 40 participants representing 25 churches to extend their solidarity for the people of Ukraine.

WCRC Solidarity Visit

The WCRC European Area Steering Committee held its last meeting in Vilnius, Lithuania between 23 and 26 January. Last decisions and arrangements were made for the upcoming Area Council to be held in Warsaw, but solidarity was at the heart of the meeting.

The Transylvanian Reformed Church District's battle with the Romanian government concerning the re-naturalization of church-owned property will come to a head 21 January when the court will reconvene for the next court session.

Opening Doors and Strengthening Reformed Ties

Rev. Dr. Jerry Pillay is the president of the World Communion of Reformed Churches and also the General Secretary of the Presbyterian Church in South Africa. He recently made a trip to Hungary where he received an honorary doctorate from the Debrecen Reformed Theological University.

Hungarian Reformed Church Aid Medical Team Deployed to the Philippines

A medical team from the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid (HRCA) deployed to the Philippines on 11 November following the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan in order to deliver medical equipment and 15,000 dollars-worth of aid. The team left Hungary on Monday for the city of Tacloban.

Extraordinary Synod in Lithuania

On 23 March, the Evangelical Reformed Church in Lithuania, a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches, held an extraordinary Synod attended by Balázs Ódor, Ecumenical Officer of the RCH, as the representative of WCRC Europe.
